“COPENHAGEN THE CREATIVE CITY SETS A WORLD RECORD IN ART!”

Distortion 2011 (Nørrebro), Thursday the 2nd of July, from 18:45 – 22:00 on Blegdamsvej.

On this summer day during Denmark’s biggest street-party, a sea of people will paint history.

“The Unknown Masterpiece” (the title of the 100 meter long communal painting) will bring Copenhagen together to set a Guinness World Record in the category “The World’s Biggest Paint Party – Most People Contributing to the Same Painting Simultaneously.” It will be an ‘old-school’ Guinness World Record Attempt with official representation on site.

We are anticipating more than 15,000 people to contribute to the collective masterpiece, which will also become Denmark’s longest painting.

The concept is simple – A ‘box’ will be constructed consisting of four containers. Plywood panels will be mounted all the way around the ‘box’ so that the total length of the canvas will be 178 m2.  On top of the ‘box’ will be the stage, which we have called ‘the ring’.

We will be providing thousands of litres of paint and tens of thousands of brushes for the participants to use, with volunteer ‘controllers’ positioned all along canvas to assist the participants, both practically and creatively.

Danish radio-comedy duo Anders Lund Madsen and Anders Breinholt, otherwise known as ‘De Sorte Spejdere’ (The Black Scouts) will be reunited for Copenhagen Paint Party 2011 and will host the event on Segways from ‘The Ring’. Eighty volunteers will register, stamp (with natural henna) and record the number of participants as well as report the results to the Guinness World Record delegation.
