Welcome to the first night of Husets Biograf´s 2-day Burlesque series done in partnership with Golden Days Festival whose theme this year is "the B-side" of life. In its original form “Burlesque” was a low and vulgar entertainment that decent folk would never patronize, and hence a fitting inclusion in the festival's platter of “B-side” delights. Join us as we delve into the spirit of old-school and neo-Burlesque with a series of films, live music and dance performances that take us back into the heart and soul of the artform as it was experienced from the 20s to the 50s. 21.00 = "TOO HOT TO HANDLE" (ON 35MM!) WITH JAYNE MANSIELD, 1960, 90 min., directed by Terence Young. This English neo-noir gangster thriller was advertised as "an exposé of sexy, sordid Soho, England's greatest shame.” The film was notorious in its day thanks to Mansfield's risqué see-through costuming and racy musical numbers. We follow a cast of innocent and not so innocent young women as they ply their trade in Soho´s “Pink Flamingo Club,” performing some amazing dance numbers and getting involved with brutal gangsters. A recreation of sleazy London now gone forever (sob!).
