Kom med, når CC og Glyptoteket inviterer til åbningsfest for udstillingen Abbas Akhavan – curtain call

Torsdag den 22. juni fra kl. 17 til midnat.

Her fejrer vi den første Skandinaviske soloudstilling med Abbas Akhavan, der vises i et unikt udstillingssamarbejde. Oplev Akhavans monumentale totalinstallationer, når de breder sig på tværs af CC’s rå industrihaller og Glyptotekets historiske arkitektur.

I sine stærkt dragende og poetiske værker kredser Akhavan om komplekse geopolitiske fortællinger og undersøger, hvilke historiske, arkitektoniske og sociale strukturer, der bliver tilknyttet et givent område eller sted.

Under den fælles udstillingstitel curtain call præsenterer Akhavan for første gang to af sine nyeste totalinstallationer samtidig: variations on a folly (2021-), der vises på Copenhagen Contemporary og cast for a folly (2019-), som kan opleves på Glyptoteket.

PROGRAM
Ligesom udstillingen foregår fejringen på både Glyptoteket og CC. På Glyptoteket kan du opleve Abbas Akhavan i samtale med Anna Gregersen, kurator og museumsinspektør på Glyptoteket. Og på CC vil der være åbningstaler med kunstinstitutionernes direktører og kuratorer efterfulgt af musik og fest.

OM SAMARBEJDET

Hosting Histories – Revisiting Cultural Heritage of the Middle East and Beyond er et nyt treårigt udstillingssamarbejde mellem kunstmuseet Glyptoteket og kunstcenteret Copenhagen Contemporary. Her rejser samtidskunsten på tværs af tid og sted med en udstillingsrække, der over tre år viser soloudstillinger med tre internationale samtidskunstnere. I samarbejde med kuratorer fra begge institutioner, vil kunstnerne få adgang til Glyptotekets mellemøstlige oldtidssamlinger og genbesøge denne kulturarvs betydning i dag gennem egne værker. Udstillingerne vil finde sted på begge institutioner samtidigt. Første kunstner i udstillingsrækken er den anerkendte Abbas Akhavan (f. 1977 i Teheran, bor og arbejder i Montreal), som med denne udstilling viser sin første soloudstilling i Skandinavien.

CC x GLYPTOTEK: Exhibition Opening Celebration
Thursday 22 June from 5.00 pm to midnight

CC and the Glyptotek invite you to a party to celebrate the opening of the exhibition Abbas Akhavan – curtain call.

We will be celebrating both Abbas Akhavan’s first solo exhibition in Scandinavia and a unique exhibition collaboration. Discover Akhavan’s monumental total installations, presented both in the raw industrial spaces of Copenhagen Contemporary and the historical architecture of the Glyptotek.

Akhavan’s highly alluring, poetic works tackle complex geopolitical narratives, looking at the historical, architectural and social structures that become associated with a given area or place.

Under the overall exhibition title curtain call, for the first time Akhavan is presenting two of his latest total installations simultaneously: variations on a folly (2021-), presented at CC, and cast for a folly (2019-) at the Glyptotek.

PROGRAMME

Like the exhibition, the celebration will take place at both the Glyptotek and CC.

At the Glyptotek you can attend an artist talk between Akhavan and Anna Kærsgaard Gregersen, curator at the Glyptotek. At CC, the heads of the two institutions and their curators will give opening speeches. This will be followed by music and a party.

• 10.00 am to 9.00 pm: the opportunity to see the Glyptotek’s part of the exhibition.
• 5.00 to 5.45 pm: A free glass of beer and an artist talk with Abbas Akhavan and Anna Kærsgaard Gregersen at the Glyptotek.
• Make your own way to Copenhagen Contemporary
• 6.30 pm: Welcome speeches and (yet another) free drink at CC, followed by the opening of the exhibition.
• 9.00 pm: The exhibition closes and the celebrations continue with drinks and music by Deb Foam and DJ Nah Care at CC
• Midnight: End of the celebrations.

This evening there is free admission to the Glyptotek from 4.30 pm. There is a limited number of places. Book a free ticket via Billetto.

There is free admission to CC from 6.00 pm.

Glyptotek season ticket holders or CC membership card holders can visit both institutions free of charge throughout the exhibition period.

THE COLLABORATION

Hosting Histories: Revisiting Cultural Heritage of the Middle East and Beyond is a new three-year exhibition partnership between the Glyptotek museum and the Copenhagen Contemporary art centre. Contemporary art will travel across time and place in a series of exhibitions that, in the course of three years, will present solo shows dedicated to the work of three contemporary artists. In collaboration with curators from both institutions, the artists will be granted access to the Glyptotek’s Middle Eastern antiquity collection, revisiting the significance of cultural heritage today in the light of their own works. The first artist in the series is Abbas Akhavan (b. 1977 in Teheran, living and working in Montreal). This will be this renowned artist’s first solo exhibition in Scandinavia.
