Once upon a time, a then high-school students named Jens Hannibal was given permission by his beloved parents to celebrate his birthday in their lovely, wonderful garden in Humlebæk. Humlebæk is a peaceful, small town nestled between forests, fields and sea in 30km north of Copenhagen.

Back then, some 15 years ago, the format was a BBQ attended by a bunch of rowdy teenagers. Those were the wild and crazy drunken old days. There were times when Susanne, Jens' mother, intended to veto the continuation of the annual festivities.

But, as Jens and the gang grew older and wiser – and somewhat less rowdy – Jens' mom kept deciding to give it yet another chance –and has been doing so for the past 15 years.

Eventually, the Humlebæk Birthday BBQ evolved into LOVE FEST BBQ and started to involve live music played by those participants wishing to share their talent.

This is the current format those of us who’ve attended year after year have come to know now just as LOVE FEST. THE garden/house party gathering of the year. Welcoming to people of all ages including kids.

In 2017, Jens met Leui and Leah in London, the founders of The Artists Asylum, which finds and promotes up-and-coming artists. The three of them decided to try out a more festival like format with somewhat grander ambitions with regards to stage props, deco, bar, equipment, etc. They called it UNITE THE HOUSE.

However, after some careful deliberation of late, it’s been decided to scale back the format to LOVE FEST, which so many of us have come to know and love, and which will be sure to delight and inspire any new comers.

The Artists Asylum will still be coming with a group of artists who will perform dancing, jazz, live doodle painting and much more. There will also be live performances by Danish artists.

The key difference is that with LOVE FEST everyone is participants. Including the artists.

And it’s going to be genuinely good n’ fun times, as always. Guaranteed. So come with yourself, your family, your children and contribute your love and good vibes to LOVE FEST.

EATING AND DRINKING:

The food this year is cooked Eat Like A Bear style, which means plant focused dishes on the BBQ. It will be delicious. Guaranteed. Oh, and there will be brunch for those who stick around for the next day too.

There will be a self service bar with beers for 15DKK each and wine by the glass for 20DKK. BRING CASH PLEASE.

ACCOMMODATION:

We’re renting a huge tent that will also house some of the performances. Those who want can sleep there. Just bring matt and sleeping bag.

Day part (excl. food): 40DKK NB!

All-day/night (incl food): 90DKK

Revenues go toward covering tent, deco, food, and other practicalities.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND NIGHT:

Participants can start trickling in from noon. There will be things happening throughout the day (separate programme to be uploaded here on the event page). The last performance will around midnight and then there’ll be music/dancing inside the house until the last people pass out.
