BLOXTALK – 'Architecture and Structure' (OMA/ARUP)

15 nov 2018 kl. 16:00 - 18:00

Dansk Arkitektur Center, Bryghuspladsen 10, 1473 København K

BLOXTALK in DAC by Ellen van Loon

Join us for an afternoon of new ideas, discussions and bubbly drinks. Meet architect Ellen van Loon, partner at Rem Koolhaas’ firm OMA and lead designer of BLOX, the most debated new building in Copenhagen.

Ellen van Loon will discuss the love-hate relationship between the architect and the engineer and explore the challenges in designing structural systems. Hear about the exciting collaboration at BLOX between OMA’s architects and Arup’s engineers, as well as their other collaborative international projects over the past decades.

The lecture will revisit OMA’s other signature projects including Casa da Musica, The Netherlands Embassy in Berlin, Seattle Public Library, De Rotterdam, CCTV, and the recently opened Qatar National Library. By drawing connections between these buildings, and contrasting steel and concrete structures, Ellen will give insight to how structural design plays an essential role in the process – proving once again that there can be no architecture without collaboration.

That’s not all!
After the BLOXTALK you’re invited to join us for our newest evening event – AfterDAC. A Thursday Bar” with gin, beers, and fish’n chips, along with a documentary of Danish-British engineer Ove Arup.
