CHRONIXX & ZINC FENCE REDEMPTION (JAM) "Prepare your minds
and hearts for this revolution." - Chronixx
Jamaican musician Chronixx has ignited a torch in people's hearts the world
over and is confidently lighting the path for an entire generation of youths to
rediscover roots and culture. Born Jamar Rolando McNaughton on October 10,
1992, Chronixx was musically nurtured from an early age by his father,
dancehall artist Chronicle, and grew up surrounded by the likes of Burro Banton
and Gregory Isaacs. His remarkable ascension in the music industry began in the
background; harmonizing for artists such as Lutan Fyah and providing production
assistance for tracks sung by Popcaan, Konshens and others.
Today, Chronixx is a respected
artist in his own and the first EP, Hooked on Chronixx, was released in 2011
and immediately put the budding artist on the radar of music lovers and
industry heads alike with 'Start A Fyah,' 'Warrior' and breakout single 'Behind
Curtain' standing out as a fan favorites far beyond Jamaican shores.
The Dread & Terrible Project
was released in April 2014 - a set comprised of seven tracks plus three dub
versions - immediately topping the Billboard (US) and iTunes reggae charts in
both UK and Japan. Neither an album nor an EP, the Project includes the widely
received ”Capture Land” and a short film based on one of its tracks, ”Rastaman
Wheel Out” to critical acclaim.
Hit single ”Here Comes Trouble”
captured late night American TV presenter Jimmy Fallon’s attention while on
vacation in Jamaica. The chance encounter lead to a personal request for the
young musician to perform live on Fallon’s TV show in July 2014. A concert held
in Central Park the following week was a roadblock affair from the outset,
thousands of attendees turned out including Rolling Stones’ frontman Mick
Jagger celebrating his 71st birthday.
Chronixx toured for the first
time in 2013 when he went to Europe with his own band Zincfence Redemption. He
has since embarked on solo tours from the Americas to the Oceanic region;
including sold out shows in New York, three shows in London, Trinidad &
Tobago, Australia, Canada, and being the first band to do a 2-part tour of
Jamaica (Capture Land Tour).
His debut album “Chronology”
will be released June 30, 2017. With so much accomplished in
such short time, the world is bracing for greater wonders from this young man
who walks with an old soul. For Chronixx himself, music is a mission and
history is being made everyday still.
MACKA B & THE ROOTS RAGGA BAND (UK) “Anything one can conceive one can
achieve. The Power of the Mind”
Macka B is one of Britain's most influential Reggae/Dancehall artists/tosters,
pushing the music back toward a Rastafarian political consciousness. His rough,
gravelly vocals give him an instantly identifiable sound. Although the vast
majority of Macka B's material was devoted to spiritual and social messages, he
did lighten the mood with occasional humorous novelty material. He shunned any
aspirations for a commercial crossover, however, staying true to the sound and
spirit of reggae's roots. His 1986 album “Sign of the Times” still remains a
milestone of British reggae, and he continued to record for Mad Professor's
Ariwa label into the new millennium.
Macka B was born Christopher
MacFarlane in the West Midlands town of Wolverhampton, England, near
Birmingham. As a youth, he played violin and sang in the school choir, but
reggae remained his first musical love. He studied engineering and served an
apprenticeship, but company factory closures resulted in his being laid off.
Instead, he worked on honing his toasting skills, influenced by early reggae
DJs like U-Roy, I-Roy, Big Youth, and especially Prince Far I. He started a
sound system called Exodus with several friends, and also converted to
Rastafarianism. In 1982, he made a trip to Jamaica to take in the exploding
dancehall scene, and returned to England with a new commitment to his craft.
Macka B also performed regularly
for local sound systems, particularly Wassifa; a tape of one Wassifa
sound-system battle found its way to the London-based Fashion Records, who gave
him the chance to make his first solo record. "Bible Reader" was
released in 1985, and did respectably well on the national reggae singles
chart. Macka B subsequently signed with Mad Professor's Ariwa label, and issued
his debut album, “Sign of the Times” in 1986. An immediate hit among British
reggae fans, it went on to top the reggae album charts; it was even hailed as a
masterpiece in some quarters, both for its imaginative production and for the
vocalist's nimble rhymes and hard-hitting social commentary.
Macka B is still releasing big
songs like “Never Played a 45”, “Medical Marijuana Card” and “Gangster” and
recently he got a lot of attention around the world with his “Medical Monday”
releases about the health benefits with vegetables and fruits. His song “Cucumba”
went viral with more than 30 million views!
