A concert of purely Polish music featuring Theatre of Voices and the hailed and legendary Smith Quartet (UK).
2018 is the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence as a
republic and this will also be celebrated widely in music. In November,
the worldwide project "100 for 100. Musical Decades of Freedom" will
present more than one hundred works by Polish composers from the last
100 years, presented by ensembles like London Sinfonietta, Ensemble
Modern and the International Contemporary Ensemble.
Theatre of Voices and artistic director Paul Hillier have collaborated
with PWM Edition and curator Filip Berkowich on the program for the
Copenhagen concert which will feature three significant female
composers, including the young and already very successful performer
Agata Zubel. Modern string quartet classics include Lutosławski’s Folk
Songs (arr.) and Górecki’s First String Quartet.
For decades, The Smith Quartet has been at the leading edge of the new
music world, having premiered more than 200 works by the world’s most
celebrated composers. Also featured are the flutist Isabella Hübener and
the pianist Tanja Zapolski.
