Beskrivelse

Two audiences enter each their theatre on each their continent at the same time.

There is nothing in the theatre except a digital projection on the end wall.

In the image, they see each other.

Græder ved havet البكاء على حافة البحر berører det hav af sorg, der er forbundet med socioøkonomisk migration.

Crying by the Sea البكاء على حافة البحر touches upon the sea of grief associated with socio-economic migration.

When you enter the theatre in Crying by the Sea البكاء على حب البحر you are handed a script. You are now a spect-actor in a performance about crossing borders - physical as well as metaphysical - together with a group of spect-actors in Tunisia, who are sitting with the same script. Through the reading, you are invited to change the narrative together.

The artistic team has created the performance through writing workshops in Tunisia and Denmark and has programmed the performance's live stream software themselves. This work explores how the overlap between open source coding practices, the concept of "spect-actor" from the Theatre of the Oppressed, and the chorus from Greek tragedy can create new forms of voice-leading across time and space that work towards a fair distribution of ownership and attention.

Each performance is published a new version of the script, which contains the spect-actors' changes from the previous performance.

The performance is currently playing simultaneously at Magneten, Teaterøen, Copenhagen (Denmark) and at Theatre du Poche, El kef, (Tunisia).

The performance continues until the last spect-actor leaves the hall and then online at theatrebuilding.com

Once you have purchased a ticket, you are welcome to return to the remaining performances during the performance period:

10/4 2025, at 19.00

11/4 2025, at 19.00

12/4 2025, at 15.00

12/4 2025, at 19.00

13/4 2025, at 15.00

The performance has been made possible thanks to support from the Danish Arts Foundation's Performing Arts Committee, DAPP Communication Fund, the Danish Arts Workshops and Sound Art Lab, Hosting Lands, Haut, Metropolis Annex, Tårnby Park Studio, Theatre du Poche and all the individuals who have helped along the way.

MONIA SANDER HAJ-MOHAMMED lives and works in a field between writing, performance art and stage direction. With references to the theatre, Haj-Mohamed explores the range of the performative space where reality and fiction blend, and where the distinction between real people and literary characters is blurred. She graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2020 and was the artistic director of Momentum Theatre in the 21/22 season. Through Forlaget Korridor, she published “Dominique” in 2015 and “The Alexander Trilogy – a Performance Essay in Three Acts” in 2019, for which she received the Schade Prize. She has exhibited at O-Overgaden, the National Gallery of Denmark, and Amager Psychiatric Hospital, and is part of the decentralized exhibition platforms Hosting Lands and theatrebuilding.com. She is a writer-in-residence at Copenhagen University.

MOUAYED EL GHAZOUANI has since 2015 been a theatre coach and performer, evolving into a queer performer and content creator in the homophobic landscape of Tunisia. As a member of Nawel Skandrani’s collective since 2018, he contributed to the queer performance scene and has conducted physical theatre classes since 2017. Moayed directed and designed the stage for “Rouheb,” earning the Scenography Award in 2023. Internationally, he’s collaborated with “Instabili Vaganti” in Italy and the Danish collective “Theatre Building.” The work with Oxfam’s feminist project (2023-2024) highlights his dedication to social and gender equality through the arts.

moltamole / ELIZA BOZEK is a Copenhagen based artist with a background in electronic music and performing arts – oriented sound design, working within the field of composition, installation, dance, theater and digital art. Sound poses a medium via which moltamole lets herself explore and absorb external environments, as well as sonify inner, emotional landscapes. The intimacy of her sonic meandering is often imbued with field recordings, voice, noise, ASMR or poetry. Preoccupied by sonic tactility, she often weaves textural compositions and abstract soundscapes. A lot of her current work is conceptual, evolving around creating scores for composition and room sound design. Graduated from Den Danske Scenekunstskole (Copenhagen) and Catalyst (Berlin). Some of the projects she has been involved in are: MINOTAUR GRL [Inter Arts Center], GROUNDINGS [O – Overgaden], ENTANGLED [Det Kongelige Teater], TRAGISKE MÅDER AT SLÅ EN KVINDE IHJEL PÅ [Odense Teater] or SCINITLLAE[Basement, Teater MOMENTUM].

JAZBO GROSS works with video, sculpture, and writing. He holds an MA in Moving Image from RCA, London, 2017. Gross examines how objects are encoded within social practices and technology, exploring their material history and popular narratives. His work has been shown and exhibited in the UK, Germany, Norway, and Denmark, with his most recent exhibitions at Calcio, London; RIBA, London; Salt, Oslo; ICA, London; and St.

MOHAMMED ROWE, a London-born artist, meticulously weaves sonic tapestries to articulate his expressions and foster communication. His compositions are rooted in the urban pulse of his upbringing, resonating with the essence of found sounds, experimental compositions, and spontaneous musical explorations. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant landscape of his surroundings, Mohammed employs a wide arsenal of processes and recording techniques. These tools enable him to capture and shape compositions, each a unique reflection of his sensory experiences. Beyond the limitations of traditional media, Mohammed’s artistic vision transcends boundaries. He collaborates seamlessly with artists across disciplines, integrating his sonic creations into interactive installations, dynamic moving images, film, and immersive theatrical performances. These collaborations act as catalysts, enriching his creative journey and expanding the horizons of his artistic expression.

RANIA REZGUI is a treasurer in a cultural association / Project Management Consultant. She is a consultant in association-based project management with over 8 years of experience in the field. She has extensive expertise in project design, planning, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring. Rania has worked with various local associations to manage and implement impactful projects across multiple themes (Theatre Performance Management, cultural projects in rural areas, theatre workshops for youth, prevention of violent extremism, rehabilitation of women affected by violence, and coaching youth in vulnerable situations).

AHMED BEN ABID, born in 1996 in Tunis, is a multidisciplinary artist with a master’s degree from The Higher Institute of Multimedia Arts of Manouba. He joined The Mediterranean Center of Contemporary Dance in 2013 and later became a member of The Sybel Ballet Theatre Company. Ahmed collaborated with Theatre Building on “Every Time I Try to Move” and addressed sexual health within Oxfam’s Masarouna program. Inspired by these experiences, Ahmed created “Unwell”, which explores suffering, isolation, minority rights, and social justice through his art to raise awareness and inspire empathy for social change.
