Is learning to stand on your hands something you have been dreaming about for years?

How about doing splits like Jean-Claude Van Damme used to do in the 80’s?

Perhaps you are working on it already but you feel you don’t have much clarity in what you should be doing.

Maybe you can’t feel that there is much progress happening despite putting in the hours.

Join us, Mikkel and Andrés, at our Handstand & Flexibility workshop that will take place at AFUK, and you’ll get all the tools you need to start working on your goals with a clear direction!

Now, in all seriousness, this is what you can expect from our workshop.


The aim of the flexibility work will be to give you the tools to build a practice that supports and benefits your handstand training and development. We will be focusing on areas most relevant for handstands which are arguably wrists, shoulders, and hips. 


During the handstand work, we will uncover the foundations of the handstand skill and the handstand practice. You will experience a toolkit of exercises that you will be able to apply to your own practice, in the direction of goals such as a free handstand, the handstand press, and the one-arm handstand.

What to expect from the flexibility work 

We will be diving into different methods and protocols that can be used to develop flexibility. We will be focusing on active flexibility drills and building strength alongside flexibility. Apart from making the flexibility more useful for your handstands, training flexibility in this way might have some extra benefits:

  • It requires fewer training sessions pr. week compared to passive stretching.
  • Improvements in flexibility seem to be maintained longer, even if you stop training it.
  • It allows for more movement options, as building strength in the stretched position will also give you more options in regards to using your range of motion.

In the end, we will discuss and give examples on how to structure your flexibility training around your handstand practice.

What to expect from the handstand work

We will be explaining the relevant mechanisms of the body that make it possible to stand on our hands (or hand!), and some of the most effective and efficient ways to develop the different aspects of the handstand skill.

We will focus on specific foundational exercises as well as a way to approach your practice from a structural and methodological point of view that can serve as a guideline for your own practice.

Some of the benefits that can come from this part of the workshop are:

  • Understanding the purpose of handstand specific exercises.
  • Gaining awareness of where you are in your handstand journey and the steps that should follow.
  • Faster development during the following months of your practice.
  • Important queues and advice in the way you perform exercises and how you structure your practice.
