by Trio Litua
Justina Auskelyte Rossi, violin
Ignas Mazvila, bassoon
Onute Grazinyte, piano
All three of us - Justina, Onute and Ignas - are actively performing in national and international frames, yet we decided to get together for this unusual trio: violin, bassoon and piano. What brought us together? Passion and enthusiasm for new and unexperienced. We strive for challenges and this unusual trio setup is one of them!
We dedicate this concert's program to two important figures in music life, who's anniversaries are being celebrated this year: Lithuanian Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis and Argentinian Astor Piazzolla.
Being a universal artist, not only a great composer, but also a painter and a writer, Ciurlionis is considered as one of the pioneers of abstract art in Europe. Since both music and visual arts were equally important to him, Ciurlionis searched for synthesis in his works: he depicted musical genres such as sonatas and fugues in his paintings and in his musical compositions embodied the nature sceneries.
Like Ciurlionis, Piazzolla was a universal artist, who was not only composing, but rearranging and actively playing bandoneon himself. Both composers searched for inspiration in folk music. While Ciurlionis captured folk melodies and elegantly blended them into his works, Piazzolla caught the wave of a folk genre tango, experimented with it, incorporated elements from classical music and jazz and reinvigorated it by creating a new style of tango: Nuevo Tango.
In our concert we will explore the similarities and differences between these two composers. Come and explore it with us!
