Beskrivelse

Copenhagen Radio Cinema Festival presents:

Sound of the North - The Nordic Indie Radio Award

The blooming, but often underfunded podcast- and radio community in the Nordic Region is in need of an award that goes beyond the interests of the large established broadcasting networks. The Golden Ears-award aims to highlight and commend work of the independent radio producers and help them develop an international network.

Copenhagen Radio Cinema Festival 2017 launches an award for the best storytelling audio production of the year made by an independent Nordic producer. The Sound of the North jury will consist of Peter Daatland (Frekvens & Oslo Podcastkino/NO), Martin Johnson (Soundtelling/SE), Thorgerdur Sigurdardottir (The Green Eye Radio Club/IS) and Rikke Houd (awarded independent radio producer/DK).

The Award

The winning audio piece will be played for an international audience at the festival. The winning producer will be rewarded 10.000 DKK and invited to attend the Copenhagen Radio Cinema Festival from September 22-24 2017 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Transportation and accommodation will be covered by the festival.

Copenhagen Radio Cinema is a non-profit organization that has been arranging listening events since 2013, primarily in the dark of a small art house cinema in Copenhagen. Copenhagen Radio Cinema curate audio stories from all over the world for a wide audience. In 2016 the organization arranged the first festival in Denmark dedicated to collective listening, headlined by Ira Glass from This American Life. Copenhagen Radio Cinema Festival aims at bringing people with curious ears together, and wishes to nurture, challenge and develop the blooming international podcast-and radio community through shared listening experiences..

This year, the festival will have a Nordic focus, and thus calls for independent Nordic audio productions that meet the following criteria:

  • The radio producer must be from one the Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland incl. Iceland, Faroe Islands, Greenland) - if co-produced, at least one of the producers must have roots from one of the Nordic countries.
  • No restrictions on the language of the radio production, but an English transcript is mandatory in order to submit.
  • The production must be published at any platform after April 2016 – or never have been published.
  • Only freelance producers can submit their work; i.e. the submitted production must not have been made at a time when the producer was on a permanent contract with the publisher.
  • The production must be suitable for a radio cinema. It should be the kind of story that evoke the audience with inner images when it’s played in a darkened movie theatre. It can be any genre; documentary, interview, reportage, montage, fiction – as long as it sounds good.
  • Duration: 1-60 minutes. The producer can submit a shorter version that works in its edited duration.
