Kom med til en atmosfærisk darkjazz rejse når The Lovecraft Sextet med selveste Jason Köhnen (Bong-Ra / Mansur / The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble / The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation) besøger Stengade som en del af Vinterjazz Festival 2024.

The Lovecraft Sextet:
After the release of the first three albums „In Memoriam“, „Nights Of Lust“ and „Miserere“ Jason Köhnen (Bong-Ra / Mansur / The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble / The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation) has created The Lovecraft Sextet’s first soundtrack to a yet to be created movie. The Horror Cosmic is a Lovecraftian cosmic horror short story which dives into the existential dread of the infinite nothingness. The album was composed as a soundtrack to accompany the illustrated short story and is an expanded step in the multidisciplinary aspect of the Lovecraft Sextet project. Therefore this release should be listened to as a soundtrack with compositions working to accentuate a specific mood to the specific chapters of the story.

Köhnen coined the term "Darkjazz" back in 1999 when he composed a track entitled 'Darkjazz' for his 2001 "Darkbreaks" EP. THE LOVECRAFT SEXTET was evoked after a void appeared with the ending of his other Darkjazz outlets, firstly TKDE and TMFDJC and then the short lived THE THING WITH FIVE EYES project which saw Köhnen's first flirtations with Arabic scales and instruments, progressively transforming into his MANSUR project together with ex-PHURPA member Dmitry El Demerdashi and avantgarde metal THY CATAFALQUE vocalist Martina Hórvath.

Köhnen's approach to his releases with THE LOVECRAFT SEXTET are to open the spectrum of Darkjazz in all its wonderful and mysterious facets. The projects hosts a list of dedicated guest musicians, who all participate as the leading actors in these scripts, all playing a crucial role in the soundtracks of these non-existing movies.

THE LOVECRAFT SEXTET releases albums on Denovali Records and Debemur Morti Productions, in a way where the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde part of this project comes to its best and most creative fruition.

+ Special Guest: ANGST sessions
ANGST Sessions make slow dark repetitive melancholic avant garde music. During sessions with my modular instruments from Buchla & Serge finding interesting textures, timbres in spatial time and space. Recording one takers and multitrack on top of that and combine that with old wooden synths and string machines like minimoog, EMS Synthi, Solina… Drenched in tape delays, phaser, flanger, delay and reverb. Mimic nature's harsch and grim way of creating pulsating life and later decay and eternal darkness.

Mitt Inre Dekadans (My Inner Decadence) explores what happens to the mind when exposed to total darkness, cold and hunger for long sessions. Whether it's in a deep sea grave, a cave where no one set foot or the cold endless space. The further down or away you get, the closer you are to the end, but still you keep going. Complete loss of time and space and alone at the mercy of one's own thoughts and inner decay. The madness and voices of one's inner demons while one's physical body screams for rest and food.
