Smerte er en kompliceret og uomgængelig del af vores liv og sundhed. Vores erfaringer med smerte er oftest meget negative; men kan paradoksalt nok have en positiv indvirkning som ved fx fødselssmerter. Samtidig er smerte også et komplekst og videnskabeligt uafklaret fænomen.
Denne aften vil Medicinsk Museions Adam Bencard dykke ned i smerteforståelsen lange historie, helt tilbage til Antikken og op til i dag. Herefter vil overlæge Mads Werner ved Neuorcentret Rigshospitalet gennegå smertesansen i relation til både menneskets fysiologi og sygdom. Endelig vil han diskutere den fascinerende placebo effekt og nocebo effekt, der direkte påvirker vores opfattelse af smerte.
Efter konsultationen anbefales det at tage et glas på recept og en spadseretur rundt i museets udstillinger. Begge er inkluderet i prisen.
