What to expect:

This program holds a special place in this year’s festival. We are thrilled to introduce Lil Lacy (US/DK) as our new composer-in-residence. The evening revolves around themes of community and hope. Together with our amazing chamber orchestra, Friends Philharmonic, we are guaranteed an unforgettable evening.

The title of the concert reflects a meeting between worlds: a series of works by American composers such as Aaron Copland, and Samuel Barber will visit us here in Copenhagen, in dialogue with our composer-in-residence Lil Lacy, whose roots span both America and Denmark.

As a prelude to the evening, the vocal ensemble ÆTLA will open the concert with two solo works, setting the tone for a night of reflection and connection.

Program:

◝ ٭ ◞ Josefine Lindstrand: Sånger från bergen (text by Edith Södergran) (5')

◝ ٭ ◞ Anna S. Þorvaldsdóttir: Heyr mig min sál, Heyr þú oss himnum á (5')

◝ ٭ ◞ Lil Lacy: RESONANS (world premiere) (15')

*** intermission ***

◝ ٭ ◞ Aaron Copland: Appalachian Spring (33')

◝ ٭ ◞ Samuel Barber: Adagio for Strings (9')

Organiser

Festival & Friends is a classical music festival located in Nørrebro, a multicultural and creative part of Copenhagen. The festival is created by young people for all new listeners of classical music.

The Copenhagen summer is full of joy and late nights, influencing the vibe of Festival & Friends, which attracts hundreds of music-loving festival participants. We strive to provide an informal atmosphere where you can experience some of the world’s best young classical music talents and join us for a beer or coffee between each concert.

Classical music is for everyone! That’s why we challenge its conventional perception. The programme of the 4-day festival is highly varied: In addition to the immortal masterpieces from the classical repertoire, we present a wide range of modern pieces and works by less known and marginalised composers. We also blend genres, with top names from the electronic and jazz scenes joining classical musicians on stage, creating new sounds and eradicating established boundaries.

Don’t see yourself as a classical music connoisseur? Fear not. Grab some friends and come join us for an unusual concert experience!
