Besættelsen kommer til København før daggry kl. 4.20 den 9. april 1940 med passagerskibet Hansestadt Danzig. Turen starter ved statuen af isbjørnen, der blev skudt i nakken.
Vi følger de tyske tropper fra landgangen, til erobringen af Kastellet og får ved Amalienborg beretning kampen med Livgardens og de nervepirrende forhandlinger, der fandt sted med konge, regering, militære ledere. Vi får også skitseret den overordnede situation tidligt i 1940, der førte frem til at Danmark blev besat.
På vej ind i byen tegner Morten Lander Andersen et rids af, hvordan
tyskerne satte sig på magten over Danmark, og hvordan det prægede livet i
København.
