Omkring 1900 var København plaget af fattigdom, kriminalitet og prostitution. I Farvergade generede en gruppe prostituerede gadens pænere borgere, der klagede deres nød til selveste Borgerrepræsentationen. I denne byvandring møder vi folk og fæ i det, der engang var en af Københavns livligste gader. Farvergade husede såvel berygtede værtshuse som velbesøgte bordeller. Men for enden af gaden var byens nye rådhus under opførelse og kvarterets borgerskab mener, at det var på tide, at gaden skiftede klientel.
