Mariana Zwarg Sexteto Universal proposes a musical celebration of Hermeto Pascoal's music.
Universal music knows no boundaries and embraces both jazz and folkloric influences,
especially traditional Brazilian rhythms.
Mariana is the daughter of Hermeto's bass player Itiberê Zwarg. She was practically born between the
rehearsals and raised by the musical family of Hermeto. Godfather Hermeto saw Mariana right after she
was born and since then he has been the guiding musical light for her, together with her father Itiberê.
Hermeto even gave Mariana the precious saxophones he used to record his world famous albums
since the 1970's!
Mariana Zwarg's arrangements of Hermeto's music as well as her own compositions create a very
warm and festive energy in which the musicians as well as the audience can feel free to enjoy the
moment. The idea is also to invite local musicians wherever they go, to share the musical party.
Mariana's band consists of international ”disciples” of universal music. Ricardo Sá Reston is the bass
player in the Itiberê Zwarg & Grupo and has been playing with Mariana over 10 years already. Sami
Kontola has been playing with Mariana in the universal music workshop of Itiberê since 2011. Mette
Nadja Hansen and Pierre Chastel is a part of the jazz scene in Berlin and have been playing and
touring with Mariana in Germany, Denmark and Brazil since 2016. For the upcoming tour the German
piano virtuoso Johannes von Ballestrem and several special guests will join them.
Mariana Zwarg Sexteto Universal proposes to open a musical Pandora's box filled with polyrhythms, joy
and harmonic nuances for the audience to enjoy.
