Fortryllende strengeleg fra Osmannerriget møder nye kompositioner
Daryen udforsker den eventyrlige og dybt bevægende klang fra instrumentet kemenche. Kemenche er et strengeinstrument med dybe historiske rødder i Silkevejen og Osmannerriget. Den ligner en mellemting mellem en saz og en violin og kunne lede tankerne hen på forfinet hofmusik fra en episk fantasyserie. Emine Bostanci spiller blandt andet på en mere end 150 år gammel kemenche af kostbart elfenben, som blev bygget på bestilling af Sultan Abdulaziz til at underholde ham i det osmanniske palads.
Den tyrkisk-fødte kemenche-spiller Emine Bostanci har viet sit liv som kunstner til kemenchen, som hun føler en intim forbindelse med. Musikken bevæger sig i et felt mellem ny kompositionsmusik, folkelige rødder og “early music”. Musikken skaber ordløse dialoger, som slipper publikums fantasi løs.
Den melankolske og ekspressive klang fra kemenchen udforskes i et fremsynet og genreudviskende samspil med cello og percussion. Sammen med den hollandsk-russiske cellist Maya Fridman og den hollandske percussionist Vinsent Planjer udforskes et kontinuum mellem kulturarv og nyfortolkning. Som trio lader Daryen sig rive med af dette spændingsfelt i dynamiske og lyriske improvisationer. Kemenche og cello indgår i en virtuos dans, hvorved der skabes en hypnotiserende lydlig stoflighed med rytmiske accenter af percussion.

The music of Dareyn combines the mystical sound of the kemenche – with its heritage of traditional music originating from Istanbul and the Silk Road – and the deep-rooted sound of the cello in a contemporary fashion.
The repertoire takes its inspiration from the beauty of modality, the dynamic character of bowing and the rich world of rhythms. Emine Bostanci and Maya Fridman blend their voices with their instrumental expertise, creating a uniquely mesmerizing soundscape with percussionist Vinsent Planjer.
Their music creates dialogues of unspoken narratives which appeal to the imagination of each listener.
Lineup:
Emine Bostanci (TR) plays the lyrical kemenche, a traditional stringed bowed instrument based on Istanbul, which began to flourish during the Ottoman period. She fuses makams, taksim, and elements of Sufi music with her rich musical experience in contemporary world music.
Maya Fridman (RU/NL) plays the cello, she has the unique talent to find a deeper meaning in music, and express it with a strong emotional performance. Her passion for new music is an outstanding investment for the future development of the instrument.
Vinsent Planjer (NL) lends his unique percussion set that combines various instruments from different parts of the world. His extensive background in jazz and several world music traditions, creates new rhythmical soundscapes.
Dareyn’s first EP released in March 2021 under TRPTK label.
