Vi markerer 100 året for salget af de dansk-vestindiske øer med en aften med journalist og forfatter, Mich Vraa, der vil fortælle om sin nye roman "Haabet". Beretningerne fra de danske slaveøer er næsten uudholdelig læsning, og under arbejdet med ”Haabet” måtte Mich Vraa ustandselig frasortere de værste rædsler. Han blev klar over at den fremherskende tanke – at Danmark var en slags særlig human slavenation – ingen bund har i virkeligheden. Danmark var en umenneskelig og brutal koloniherre hvis adel og fremtrædende borgere kun interesserede sig for profit. 86.000 slaver blev transporteret på danske skibe fra de danske forter på Guineakysten til de dansk-vestindiske øer. Danmark forbød slavehandlen i 1802, men slaveriet på de danske plantager fortsatte frem til 1848. ”Haabet” fortæller historien om en slavefregat og en sukkerplantage og om de mennesker der levede og arbejdede dér. Aftenen er støttet af Vanløse Lokaludvalg.
