Om aftenen den 20. oktober 1728 udbrød brand i København - den største byen har oplevet.
Som ved de fleste katastrofer var det et banalt uheld, der startede det hele. Et barn, et tællelys, et tørt loftsrum...
Og som altid gjorde myndighedernes inkompetence det hele meget værre...
Vi følger brandens udvikling gennem de tre frygtelige døgn fra den brød ud ved Vester Voldegade til den havde lagt den sidste af fem kirker i aske.
Kom med en tur til katastrofernes, pietismens og piraternes århundrede! I en by på én gang den samme og alligevel så fuldstændig anderledes end i dag.
