I 1981 udkom Depeche Modes første album - Speak & Spell - 45 år siden i 2026. Det purunge band har kun et par år på bagen og gik fra trommer, bas og trommemaskine til synthesizere og trommemaskine. Med musikken fra 1960-70erne som baggrundstæppe, skriver Vince Clarke sangene til hans eneste album med bandet, og Martin Gore bidrager med et par stykker også. Hvad var det for typer sange? Og hvordan var lyduniverset - sounden? Hvilke lyde blev der brugt? Hvordan blev de sat sammen? Vi skal prøve at kigge det unge band og producer Daniel Miller over skuldrene i studiet. Og så skal vi prøve at synge nogle af sangene for at opleve den tidlige sangskrivning. Afslutningsvis ser vi på Vince Clarkes farvel til bandet, og hvad det kom til at betyde for Depeche Mode.
Du behøver ikke have nogen særlige musikalsk-tekniske forudsætninger - alt vil blive forklaret gennem bl.a. lyd og billeder. Der vil blive givet eksempler på processen fra guitarsang, til færdig elektronisk baseret sang, så foredraget vil også være en art koncert.
Vi kommer omkring sange som New Life, Photographic, Puppets, Ice Machine, Tora!Tora!Tora! - og selvfølgelig Just Can't Get Enough.
