Den sydafrikanske rapper, drag king og queer-aktivist Dope Saint Jude leverer hårdtslående, grunge-inspireret protest-hiphop. I selskab med DJ og producer Missy Ness sætter hun ALICE i levende svingninger til efteråret! Koncerten er en del af Global Dance Nights - ALICEs nye klub for globalt orienteret dansemusik.

Dope Saint Jude

Den sydafrikanske rapper, producer og drag king Dope Saint Jude aka Catherine Saint Jude Pretorius er med sin bastunge, grunge-inspirerede hiphop blevet en af de vigtigste talspersoner for queer-bevægelsen i Cape Town. Saint Jude startede Sydafrikas første drag king trup i 2011 og performede som Saint Dude, inden hun et par år senere begyndte at producere og starte sin karriere som Dope Saint Jude. Og i raketfart har hun opnået international opmærksom med sin fængslende protest-hiphop. Gennem dedikerede live-shows, hjerteblod og hårdtslående tekster om køn, seksualitet og samfundets fastlåste normative strukturer, har formår hun at række ud til at bredt publikum, samtidig med at hun repræsenterer Sydafrikas marginaliserede grupper. Saint Jude har således turneret i USA, Afrika og Europa og er nu aktuel sin anden EP “Resilient” (produceret af Pete Boxsta Martin og Dantae Johnson), som med nik til 90’er-hiphop, grunge og med inspiration fra navne som Tupac, Riot Grrrl og Tracy Chapman har fået det til at slå gnister på hver en scene hun optræder. På ALICE får Dope Saint Jude selskab på scenen af DJ og producer Missy Ness.

Missy Ness

Tunesisk-fødte Missy Ness voksede op i det nordlige Paris’ rå kvarterer, hvor hun i en alder af kun 16 år begyndte at DJ’e. Med sit talent og sin umættelige nysgerrighed har hun siden hen rejst rundt efter ny musik til sine sets, som tager inspiration fra forskellige urbane kulturer i hele verden. Med en forkærlighed for Mahgreb og Mellemøsten byder Missy Ness på atmosfæriske og tunge forløb af bl.a. electro, drum n bass, hiphop og trip-hop. Foruden at levere gnistrende, atmosfæriske DJ-set både før og efter koncerten, vil Missy Ness denne aften være med Dope Saint Jude på scenen som DJ og producer.

Global Dance Nights er ALICEs nye klub, hvor du kan flytte dansefødderne til globalt orienteret musik. Til Global Dance Nights har vi udvalgt førsteklasses live-navne, der kan sætte gang i festen. Og der er altid DJs før og efter koncerten - og happy hour i baren den første time!

Dope Saint Jude

Catherine Saint Jude Pretorius aka Dope Saint Jude is a South African drag king, rapper, producer and queer activist based in London. Born in Cape Town, she studied politics before she started South Africa's first documented drag king troupe in 2011, performing as Saint Dude. In 2013, having learnt about performance through drag, she left the group to learn sound production and begin a career as Dope Saint Jude. In the span of less than 2 years, Saint Jude has rapidly gained international popularity for her ability to speak to various audiences through the Medium of hip-hop. With her new EP "Resilient", the native of Cape Town and spokesperson of the queer movement offers us a raw rap and a prod bass music with grunge influences, looking to artists like Tupac and Riot Grrrl. This Autumn, ALICE proudly presents Dope Saint Jude feat. DJ and producer Missy Ness.

Missy Ness

Missy Ness is an artist with an insatiable curiosity living between France and Tunisia. From Tunisian roots, she grew up in the popular 18th area in Paris, and started table-turning at the age of 16, sharpening both her technique and musical selections. Her music, intimately related to the urban cultures, takes influences from the five continents, with a specific focus on Maghreb and Middle East, where she travels on a regular basis looking for new sounds. Hip-hop, Drum n Bass, Trip-hop, Electro… Her sets are made up to build an atmosphere more than a style, but she is known for her talent in communicating enthusiasm and energy to her audience.

ALICE is presenting a bold and high quality program of global roots, jazz/improv, electronic music, sonic experiments and much more, shedding light on musical roots and legendary artists as well as exciting new breakthroughs from all over the world.
