Som selvudleverende crooner med en vidunderlig humoristisk sans er Father John Misty et barokt bekendtskab udi passion og desillusion. Med biografisk detaljeringsgrad i de tragikomiske tekster - gerne med afsæt i bryllupsnætter og kirkegårde - er Josh Tillman en ekstraordinært åbenhjertig fortæller. Og formentligt den eneste indieartist med intet mindre end seks “explicit”-vurderede numre på sit sidste album, 'I Love You, Honeybear'.
