Da de første havnebade opstod i 1780’erne, skulle de forbedre københavnernes hygiejne og sundhed. Men med årene udviklede mange af dem sig også til etablissementer, der bød på restauranter, forretninger, bade- og terapirum. Havnebadenes historie handler om Københavns udvikling fra en usædvanlig vinkel: Fra et ’ingenmands-vand’, hvorfra byens hektiske liv udspillede sig mellem skibstrafik, værfter og romantiske promenader, til nutidens cykelbroer. I dag har havnebadene en helt ny funktion. De er blevet en betydningsfuld fritidskultur, der binder byen sammen på tværes af havnen. Eftermiddagens foredragsholder er lektor og ph.d. Helen Welling fra Statens Byggeforskningsinstitut.
Bliver foredraget udsolgt, flyttes det til et større lokale, hvis der er mange tilmeldinger på ventelisten.
