Description
The Fotobiennalen Symposium 2018 in Copenhagen explores the overall theme “The Post-photograpic Image”. Related to the three Fotobiennalen-exhibitions in Aarhus, Odense and Copenhagen, the symposium will present theoretical and artistic perspectives on photographic media in our digitized contemporary society.
The photograph as a medium is changing rapidly. The analogue photograph is a rare commodity and prints are something we only see in exhibitions. We primarily access photos on our smartphones and through the social media. In the hyper digitized society, the photographic image is no longer connected to tactile material or a solid form. Instead it’s tied to digital pixels that are constantly moving from one platform to another. The shift from analogue to digital photo is not only a shift in the technical means of production, but we are also dealing with a completely new way of experiencing images. The symposium focuses on this change, and critically examines the paradigm shift.
Speakers: Geoffrey Batchen (NZ), David Bate (UK), Cecilia Grönberg (SE), Kirstine Autzen (DK), AVPD (Aslak Vibæk & Peter Døssing, DK), Jana Haeckel (BE), Robert Overweg (NL), Eva Stenram (SE) and Kristoffer Ørum (DK).
Moderator: Mette Sandbye, Professor and Head of The Department of Arts and Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen.
The Symposium is presented in collaboration with Fotobiennalen's associate partner, The University of Copenhagen - Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, and DGI-Byen. The symposium will be held in english.
