“Mandagmorgen den sjette September 1819 saae jeg fra Frederiksberg Banke første Gang Kjøbenhavn; derude steg jeg af med min lille Bylt og gik igjennem Haven, den lange Allee og Forstaden ind i Byen. Aftenen før jeg kom var just udbrudt den saakaldte »Jødefeide«, der da strakte sig gjennem flere af Europas Lande; hele Byen var i Bevægelse, stor Menneskestimmel paa Gaderne; dog al den Larm og Tummel overraskede mig ikke, den svarede just til det Røre, jeg havde tænkt mig, der altid maatte være i Kjøbenhavn, min Verdens Stad”.. (Mit livs eventyr)
En byvandring i digterens fodspor fra han ankom til hovedstaden som 14-årig til han fandt guldægget og skrev sine første eventyr. Vi møder vægtere, gadedrenge, løse fruentimmer, kongelige embedsmænd og ballerinaer og oplever København, som den var i starten af 1800-tallet.
Følg med i den ranglede teenagers fodspor og hør historien om, hvordan han gik “saa gruelig meget ondt igjennem”, uden på noget tidspunkt at miste målet af syne.
