MESMER
Emil Jensen – trompet, modular synth, live-manipulation

Kasper Tranberg Solo: Melodic Illusions (release concert)

MESMER
On April 29, the electro-acoustic trio MESMER performs at KU.BE in connection with the release of their new album Terrain Vague II, out April 22, 2026 on Arbitrary.
Based on field recordings from Læsø, Frederikshavn and Aalborg, MESMER creates an intense and immersive listening space where sounds from harbors, coastlines and urban peripheries form the architectural foundation of the music. Through improvisation, compositional structures and an electro-acoustic setup featuring synths, trumpet, drums and modular systems, the sonic traces of these places are transformed into personal and collective sound journeys.
Terrain Vague II refers to transitional zones with open potential – a metaphor for a society in motion. In the concert format, the boundaries between composition and improvisation, control and freedom dissolve. The audience is invited into a sensuous space for deep listening and attentive presence.
MESMER consists of Emil Jensen, Victor Dybbroe and Anders Filipsen. Although the trio debuted in 2023, the three musicians have collaborated closely for more than 15 years across music, film and installation – a partnership that has earned them two Danish Music Awards, performances at Roskilde Festival, and installations including at the Danish Architecture Center.
With Terrain Vague II, MESMER further refines their artistic vision and insists on sound’s ability to create connection, presence and new ways of being in the world. The music MESMER presents is an electro-acoustic auditory space, where – based on field recordings from the meeting between culture and nature – they have created a musical expression focused on attentive listening and exploration of the inner ear. A series of deconstructed improvisation sessions and field recordings has formed the foundation for the new abstract soundscapes and pieces that MESMER presents with Terrain Vague II.
Emil Jensen – trumpet, modular synth, live manipulation
Victor Dybbroe – drums and percussion
Anders Filipsen – keys and synth
Kasper Tranberg Solo: Melodic Illusions (release concert)
As a trumpeter and bandleader, Kasper Tranberg is regarded as a unifying force and one of the most important voices in Danish jazz. He is a recipient of the Ben Webster Prize, has released 13 albums under his own name, and has recently distinguished himself through a series of solo concerts in Denmark, Europe, and Japan.
Tranberg has developed a highly personal musical expression focused on the essence and experience of melody. In MELODIC ILLUSIONS, he challenges the core of his artistic practice through pan-melodic orientations and phenomenological approaches, maintaining a constant focus on the precious nature of melody. The music is bound together by a shared fantasy that listeners can enter, propelled by pulse, swing, and drive rooted in jazz, while also embracing weightlessness, imagination, and openness. His sources of inspiration are wide-ranging: from the Japanese conch instrument horagai and the powerful stage imagery of Kabuki theatre to Lolland blues and ancient burial mounds.
This solo concert marks and celebrates the release of two albums: the solo trumpet work “12 Melodic Illusions for Solo Improviser” and “Melodic Illusions for Sextet”, featuring an explosive European ensemble of six leading figures from the European improvisation scene.
The concert hall at KUBE provides an intimate and ideal setting for this immersive solo experience, drawing the audience into a sensual, intense, and deeply personal musical space where music, sound, imagination, and presence merge into a unified experience.
