    Hans Munk Hansens bog om Isfahan er en fremstilling i tekst og billeder af historiske broer, moskeer, markeder og paladser i en af den islamiske verdens arkitektonisk rigeste byer.

    Siden bogens forfatter i 1950erne boede og arbejdede i Iran har Isfahan været et stadigt omdrejningspunkt i hans arbejdsliv som arkitekt og underviser. Han er igen og igen vendt tilbage til byen med kamera og tegneblok for at trænge ind i byens væsen og tusindårige arkitektur, som på forunderlig vis er bevaret bedre her end de fleste andre steder.

    Alle bogens kort og planer skyldes forfatteren, som også har optaget bogens fotos over 60 år. Derfor har mange af fotografierne patina og viser byen som den så ud før den blev en moderne storby. De gamle fotos fastholder en tid, som ikke længere findes. Bogens nyeste fotos er fra 2015 og viser blandt andet detaljer af Fredagsmoskeen, hvis komplicerede søjler og varierede hvælvinger må fascinere enhver, der får øjnene op for dem
