Karen Blixen, or Isak Dinesen, is an iconic persona and master of storytelling but her name is also linked to a brutal and bloody military occupation in Kenya under British colonial rule. For Blixen personally, her 17 years in British East Africa were marked by deep reflection, a sense of freedom and insufferable tragedy. When she returns to Rungstedlund, she is seriously ill, financially ruined, and severely depressed. This becomes the ground for her authorship.
Sofie Vega Stougaard-Johansen holds a masters in English from the University of Copenhagen. She is specialized in postcolonial theory and literature.
