Kvindelige kunsterne har ikke altid fået anderkendelse af deres samtid. En af disse kvinder er Karoline Ebbesen (1852-1936). Tidligt i livet får hun voldsomme humørsvingninger, seksuelle forestillinger og stærke lidenskabelige udbrud, og hun tilbringer derfor størstedelen af sit liv som psykiatrisk patient på Sct. Hans Hospital. I dag ville vi sige, at Karoline Ebbesen var paranoid skizofren. Gennem sin mere end 50 år lange indlæggelse producerer hun fascinerende værker af de materialer, hun kan få fat i på hospitalet. Igennem den kreative skabertrang udtrykker hun sine indre oplevelser og alternative virkelighed.
Først mange år efter sin død, bliver Karoline Ebbesen indskrevet i den danske kunsthistorie. Gennem en posthum udstilling får omverdenen øjnene op for hendes talent og mangfoldige kunstneriske virke.
OM WORKSHOPPEN
Denne workshop tager udgangspunkt i Karoline Ebbesens liv og værker. Til workshoppen skaber vi vores egne mini tekstilværker. Som deltager bliver du præsenteret for teknikker som broderi, patchwork og syning af museets konservator og tekstilformidler Amalie Suurballe Schjøtt-Wieth. Undervejs vil museumsinspektør Anne Dorthe Suderbo fra Sct. Hans Hospitals Museum fortælle om Karoline Ebbesens liv, hendes samtids syn på og behandling af psykiatriske patienter samt hendes værker. Hundredevis af Karolines arbejder er i dag på Sct. Hans Hospitals Museum.
Workshoppen er for alle uanset niveau. Museet står for kyndig vejledning, materialer samt kaffe, the og lidt sødt undervejs.
