Description
Based on the idea of a garden, this workshop will be themed around botanical images, drawing inspiration from succulents, flowers, leaves and plants to create your own unique artwork. Whether you are new to linocut or feel the need for a refresher course, this class will provide you with the knowledge and techniques to create a linocut print with confidence as you learn to handle the tools and materials to be able to print on paper and even a fabric
Images will be provided to work from but feel free to bring your own if you have some. This is not intended to be a drawing class. Images can be traced from the selection provided or drawn directly on to the lino, meaning that absolutely all levels of creative ability will be able to produce a print to be proud of. The focus of the class will be on working with the tools and materials used to produce a lino print.
The ink you will learn about is a pure indigo ink which is a natural botanical dye making it perfect for fabrics, paper, gift wrap and more!
The class will cover:
-a brief introduction and overview of linocut printing
-how to draw or transfer your design on to your block of lino
-how to handle and use your tools - practising mark making
-registering your print on the paper consistently
-cutting, inking and printing by hand using a variety of tools
-How to create the indigo ink
By the end of the class you will have:
- a small edition of prints made from an A5 piece of lino
- a small takeaway home kit to continue learning.
All materials and use of tools are included. Aprons and latex gloves will be provided but it is recommended that you wear suitable clothes for a practical and potentially messy class just in case.
Your prints and are likely to still be tacky and wet when you leave. There will be some newsprint and tissue paper to protect your prints during transport and a few plastic bags to help protect them from the elements but feel free to bring along anything else to help you transport your creations home.
The class is run in English - and will have a maximum 10 participants
We will have a break for refreshments in the middle of the workshop. Lunch is not included so you are invited to bring your own food or visit the High Street where there are many cafes and shops which are very close to the workshop.
