Description

After more than a decade on the forefront of Europe’s experimental music scene — with awards, commissions, and performances at renowned festivals and institutions — composer and performer Marcela Lucatelli presents COISA MÁ, her first full album sung entirely in Brazilian Portuguese, embracing the rich pulse of Latin American diasporic rhythms. The album reveals her newest aesthetic achievement: overtly danceable, ritualistic, and deeply rooted in the meeting point between pop, performance, and sonic experimentation. The release concert at Copenhagen Jazz Festival features Lucatelli in an electrifying quartet with Lars Bech Pilgaard (guitar & keys), Anders Vestergaard (drums), and a special guest, the Copenhagen-based Estonian saxophonist Maria Faust. Produced by Lucatelli herself, COISA MÁ is more than just a record — it's a bold declaration of creative autonomy. Its visual and musical world touches on cycles of intimacy, desire, vertigo, and transformation, proposing a new way of being in music — one that escapes the binary between mainstream and avant-garde, instinct and form. Get ready for a performance that vibrates with urgency, vulnerability, and power — a concert to feel with your whole body.

Marcela Lucatelli is one of the most innovative vocalists and composers of her generation. Born in Brazil and based in Denmark, she has gained international recognition for her boundary-pushing performances—sensuous, politically charged, and uncompromisingly original. Described by The Wire as a composer of “scores for the limits of bodies and voice,” Lucatelli challenges conventions with her fearless vocal experimentation and bold compositions. Her works have been performed by leading ensembles such as the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Vocal Ensemble, and Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, alongside some of the world's most daring contemporary music collectives. She has appeared at major festivals and venues, including Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Darmstadt Ferienkurse, DR Koncerthuset, A L’ARME!, Cafe Oto, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Copenhagen Opera Festival, DMA Jazz – Danish Music Awards, Ultima Festival, Borealis Festival, WOMEX, and many more. Lucatelli's groundbreaking work has earned her several prestigious awards, including the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Talent Prize (2019), Pelle Prize (2021), and the Danish Music Awards' 2023 Vocal Jazz Release of the Year.

Organiser

Loco description from Allaboutjazz:

In recent years, Jazz Club Loco has been an important player in the development of the new Danish avant-garde that has also been propelled by the label ILK. Loco has become famous for its adventurous concerts held at different venues and its series of superb records. Thus, Loco is both arranging concerts and releasing records that avoids the well-trodden road of the mainstream. Among the essential names promoted by Loco are Yak, Bugpowder, Moskus and the surrealistic musical collective yoyo oyoy whose activities include the bands Slütspürt, Kirsten Ketsjer og Fjernsyn Fjernsyn. What unites all these different names is a will to experiment with genres and create new improvised music. Rock musicians meet up with jazzers, concept artists, composers and electronic wizards to make music filled with energy and passion.

It is a spirit of looseness, seriousness and anarchistic madness that makes Loco compelling (…) It might be said that to Loco jazz is the new punk.
