Oplev Tricia Boutté, Niclas Bardeleben, Siri Skamby og Danmarks mest funky New Orleans band, Jazz Five, i fællesprojektet, Mardi Gras Indian Party 2018. Ekstra krydderi til denne koncert på Fringe Jazz Fest er stjerneguitaristen Steve Masakowski fra New Orleans.
Mardi Gras Indian kulturen er blandt de mest farverige og mytiske af New Orleans’ kulturelle fænomener. Mardi Gras Indian stammerne fra “The Big Easy” viser deres fantastiske, farverige og håndlavede kostumer frem ved bl.a. Mardi Gras og Super Sunday og nu også Fringe Jazz Fest. Musikken var oprindeligt ”call-and-respons” besværgelser med tamburiner og anden håndholdt percussion, men blev senere blandet med New Orleans funk, soul og R’n’B. Den berømte New Orleans sang ”Iko Iko” er blevet symbolet på Mardi Gras Indian traditionen.
