Ovenpå sine studier ved Kunstakademiet i København blev Sigurjón Ólafsson (1908-82) en del af den danske avantgarde i 1930’erne og 40’erne, før han i 1945 flyttede tilbage til Island og fik afgørende betydning for udviklingen af den islandske modernisme. Samtidig bevarede han en tæt forbindelse til den danske kunstscene, og hans værker findes i dag på flere af vores museer såsom Museum Jorn i Silkeborg, Kunsten i Aalborg og Statens Museum for Kunst.
Sigurjón Ólafsson udførte talrige offentlige monumenter, et par hundrede portrætbuster, store stenskulpturer og en mængde værker i træ. Sidstnævnte er i fokus på Nordatlantens Brygges sommerudstilling Digte i træ fra 21. maj til 11. september.
Kunstsamtale
Birgitta Spur interviewes af kunsthistoriker Anne Blond om Sigurjón Ólafssons liv og kunst. Samtalen varer 45 minutter og derpå besvares spørgsmål fra salen.
Arrangementet foregår på dansk og varer 60 min.
Billetten (40 kr) inkluderer et glas vin og adgang til udstillingen.
MEDVIRKENDE
Birgitta Spur blev født på Fyn i 1931 og var elev hos billedhuggeren Henry Luckow-Nielsen 1950-52. Hun fortsatte sine studier på billedhuggerskolen på det Kgl. Danske Kunstakademi, indtil hun i 1956 giftede sig med Sigurjón Ólafsson og fulgte ham til Island. Efter Sigurjóns død stiftede hun i 1984 den selvejende institution Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum (Listasafn Sigurjóns Ólafssonar) i Reykjavik. Hun ledede museet indtil 2012, hvor det blev overdraget til den islandske stat. Birgitta Spur har kurateret talrige udstillinger og redigeret de fleste af Sigurjón Ólafsson Museets udgivelser, bl.a. biografien Sigurjón Ólafsson - Ævi og list I-II (1998 og 1999) med catalogue raisonné over kunstnerens oeuvre.
Anne Blond (f. 1976) er cand.mag. i kunsthistorie og master i design. Siden 2020 har hun været projektleder i Foreningen til etablering af et museum for Hans J. Wegners møbelkunst i Tønder. Tidligere museumsinspektør ved Sønderjyllands Kunstmuseum/Kunstmuseet i Tønder og fra 2017-2020 leder af kunstenheden i Museum Sønderjylland. Udvalgsformand 2018-2022 for Statens Kunstfonds projektstøtteudvalg for kunsthåndværk og design og medlem af bestyrelsen på Museum Holmen i Løgumkloster og Nolde Museet i Seebüll, Tyskland. Anne Blond har også skrevet flere artikler, bl.a. til bogen Sigurjón Ólafsson – Mangfoldig modernisme.
