OM UDSTILLINGEN
Session 8 er den første soloudstilling i Danmark af Ghost Agency, bestående af Anni Garza Lau og Gro Sarauw.
I deres praksis undersøger Ghost Agency digital overvågning og tabet af privatliv. De fokuserer på at udvikle værktøjer og overlevelsesstrategier uden om det digitale herredømme, der udvinder vores data og liv online. I Session 8 spørger kunstnerne: Hvordan kan de, der har behov for et fristed, gribe ind i teknologien eller helt omgå den?
Udstillingen spiller på idéen om 'den sorte boks' – altså hvordan en teknologis funktion og bias bevidst tilsløres af dem, der skaber og kontrollerer den. En anden betydning er ’blackbox’-teatret; her i form af udstillingens totaliscenesættelse af grænseflader mellem online og offline rum. Det er måske i tusmørke og mellemrum, at de digitale fristeder skal findes, og vi kan forestille os nye veje til fælles håb gennem kollektive processer?
Udstillingen er en del af Ghost Agencys flerårige forskningsprojekt om teknomagternes undergravning af menneskerettigheder og demokrati.
OM GHOST AGENCY
Ghost Agency er en praksis mellem den danske kunstner Gro Sarauw og den mexicanske kunstner og teknolog Anni Garza Lau. Gennem praksisbaseret research i samarbejde med lokale NGO’er og institutioner udvikler de en organisationsstruktur, der viser hvordan kunstnerisk eksperimentering gennem kollektive processer, kan sprogliggøre udfordringerne og medvirke til udvikling af både kvinders og menneskerettigheder i den digitale tidsalder. Gennem kollektivisering af teknologiforståelse i både lokale og globale kontekster, som Ghost Agency arbejder i, stiller deres praksis sig som et modtræk til nutidig kønsvold i Mexico – og udnyttende mekanismer for overvågningskapitalisme generelt.
Ghost Agency er en del af Art Hub Copenhagens program Mikroinstitut fra 2023 til 2026, og det er på baggrund af dette samarbejde, at deres arbejde præsenteres i udstillingen Session 8 i Art Hub Copenhagens udstillingsplatform Room Room.
Session 8 er støttet af Kulturministeriets og Udenrigsministeriets pulje for internationalt kultursamarbejde, Ny Carlsbergfondet, Nordisk Kulturfond og Statens Kunstfond.

The tour offers a rare insight into the in-depth research, the many layers, and the long-term process across disciplines and continents that underpin the works.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Session 8 is the first solo exhibition in Denmark by Ghost Agency, the artistic practice of Anni Garza Lau and Gro Sarauw.
In their work with digital surveillance and the loss of privacy, Ghost Agency focus on the development of tools and strategies to aid our survival in the shadow of the digital hegemony extracting our data and agency. In Session 8, the artists ask: How can those who need to find sanctuary intervene in technology – or bypass it altogether?
In the exhibition, the trope of the black box has several connotations. One suggests the way in which the functioning of technology is deliberately obscured and biased by those who build, control, and profit from it. Another points to the exhibition’s theatre-like, immersive staging of interfaces between online and offline spaces. Maybe it is in these penumbral zones and in-between spaces that digital sanctuaries are to be discovered, and new avenues of shared hope can be imagined through evolving collective practices?
The exhibition is part of Ghost Agency’s multi-year research project exploring breaches in human rights inflicted by techno-power, posing a threat to democracy and human rights in the digital age.
ABOUT GHOST AGENCY
Through practice-based research in collaboration with local NGOs and institutions, Ghost Agency de velop an organisational structure that demonstrates how artistic experimentation founded on collective processes can articulate challenges and contribute to the advancement of the rights of women, and wider human rights, in the digital age.
Through the development of collective technological understandings in both local and global contexts, Ghost Agency’s practice offers practical counter measures to contemporary gender-based violence in Mexico, and the exploitative mechanisms of surveil lance capitalism in general.
Ghost Agency present the work in AHC’s exhibition platform Room Room as part of AHC’s collaborative Micro Institute programme for 2023–2026.
Session 8 is supported by the Danish Ministry of Culture and the Ministry Foreign Affairs’ Strategic Development Projects funding scheme for international cultural cooperation, the New Carlsberg Foundation, the Nordic Culture Fund and the Danish Arts Foundation.
