PHILIP AKROFI QUARTET
Philip Akrofi er en af de mest spændende – og stadig under radaren – musikere på den danske jazzscene.
Med sin quartet folder han sine egne kompositioner ud med teknisk overskud og kunstnerisk dybde, er han nu klar med sin debutkoncert i eget navn.
Inspireret af blandt andre Charles Mingus, trækker Akrofi tråde til både jazzhistoriens store helte og samtidens lyd, og præsenterer et personligt og nutidigt bud på, hvordan jazz kan lyde i dag.
Hans musik er både inderlig og eksplosiv – melodisk og kompromisløs – og vidner om en stor kunstner in the making og med noget på hjerte.
Akrofi har tidligere markeret sig på scenen med navne som Josephin Bovién, Jeremy Troy og Mark Hurell (UK), Gustav Hagelskjær m.fl. og han er kendt for sit stærke nærvær og samspil. Hans legendariske optræden og uundværlige bidrag til Nebula i 2021 huskes tydeligt af dem som var tilstede.

Navnet – Left Up Right – afspejler bandets tilgang til musikken: De bevæger sig i forskellige retninger, udfordrer konventionerne og skaber noget nyt. Fra venstre, jazzens frihed og med opadgående elektroniske rytmer, og til højre i verdensmusikkens uendelige mangfoldighed og kapacitet.

The name - Left Up Right - reflects the band's approach to music: They move in different directions, challenge conventions, and create something new. From the left, the freedom of jazz, upward electronic rhythms, and to the right, toward the endless diversity and capacity of roots music.
