Dette er et grundkursus med fokus på den nye smertevidenskab og -behandling, som kan hjælpe klienter helt eller delvist ud af kroniske smertecirkel. Det er en stor vægtning af den teoretiske del, da den ene halvdel af smertebehandlingen er vidensformidling omkring smertens kompleksitet. Emnerne her er: Definition af smerte, myter omkring smerte og hvordan vi afliver dem, smertens kompleksitet, ændringer i hjernens og det perifere nervesystem måde at arbejde på ved længerevarende smerte, Fear aviodance, katastrofetænkningen samt over- og underbrug af kroppens betydning.
Den praktiske smertebehandling omhandler bl.a. hvordan vi får klientens nervesystem til at falde til ro og blive tryg gennem kropsbevidsthed, gradvis eksponering gennem doseret bevægelse og en generel ændring af relationen til og brugen af kroppen.
