MONO er tilbage!!
Vi hylder én af jazzens største komponister på hans 100-års fødselsdag (og dagene omkring). Monk blev født d. 10. oktober - og vi mente at en reprise var på sin plds.
Vi er glade for igen at kunne byde velkommen til 3 aftner med en unik sammensat trio. MONO spillede under dette års Cph. Jazz Festival 3 udsolgte koncerter på Gaarden & Gaden. Den består af 3 landets mest toneangivende musikere der siden årets begyndelse og 100-året for Monks fødsel har vendt og drejet, udforsket og fortolket Monks mesterværker.
Forvent følsomme og virtuose fortolkninger af Monks dissonante og rytmiske klaverspil, hans uudgrundelige personlighed og uomgængelige melodier som f.eks.: ‘Round Midnight, Misterioso, Straight, No Chaser og Blue Monk.
Mono består af Peter Bruun (trommer) kendt fra bl.a. Django Bates Trio, Marc Ducret Quartet og Eggs Laid By Tigers;
Anders Christensen (AC) (kontrabas) kendt fra bl.a. Jakob Bros danske Trio, Hess/AC/Hess Spacelab, Tomasz Stanko kvintet og samarbejdet med Paul Motian.
Begge er anerkendt som bemærkelsesværdige instrumentalister og medspillere, men også som komponister. Egne kompositioner er dog lagt lidt til side for i aften, der står i Monks tegn.
Mono består endvidere af Simon Toldam, der selv er en visionær komponist og klaverspiller med egne kanter. Det har man kunnet høre i en række ensembler ofte under eget navn, men også hos f.eks. Han Bennink Trio og på cirka 14 albums udgivet på ILK. Denne aften er det dog ikke hans egne prisbelønnede kompositioner, som vi kommer for at høre, men Monos udforskninger af Monks udødelige blanding af blues, rytmiske forskydninger og pludselige heltone-skalaer.
Som regelmæssige gæster på Gaarden & Gaden vil vide, elsker vi Monk på vores stereo - denne aften elsker vi nok også Monk i Mono udgaver.
Mono is a new Danish acoustic jazz trio consisting of seasoned pros from the national and international jazz scene. On this night they will explore the music of Thelonious Monk.
Monk is renowned for his jazz compositions and his angular and idiosyncratic piano playing.
Gaarden & Gaden is a wine bar specializing in natural wines, artisanal beer and organic food. Live jazz music on select nights.
