Sarah Shook er en kunstner med attitude. Vokset op i New York State, nær Poughkeepsie, i en familie fra bibelbæltet, hjemmeskolet og rodløs, da familien ofte flyttede. Og hun husker fattigdom, slid, og hvordan det var umuligt at skaffe penge.
Da hun endte i Garner, North Carolina vendte meget på det personlige plan.
Sange med titlerne "Dwight Yokam" og "The Nail" punkterer myter om, hvordan country og americana skal lyde. Og dem, der hævder, at "der ikke er stærke kvinder" på den internationale countryscene, vil efter en koncert med Sarah Shook ændre holdning!
Det går fra ballader, der føles som en træls morgen i den forkerte seng, til skinnende Mustangs… Hver sang har en masse attitude og teksterne, ja teksterne - de går lige i hjertet med lige dele melankoli og humor.
Sarah selv siger, at den nye "Sidelong" plade er et stort - fuck dig! Men på en paradoksal måde løftes både publikum og håbet om musikkens fremtid.
