Ingen andre danske kunstnere har som L.A. Ring skildret omvæltningerne i kunsten og samfundskulturen i tiårene omkring år 1900, og brydningstiden sætter overalt sine spor. Ofte som en rastløs søgen efter noget andet og måske mere meningsfuldt.
I Rings landskaber og figurbilleder vendes det indadvendte, symbolistiske syn ud ad og møder den moderne verden. Men verden er ikke bare hvad den giver sig ud for. Med bl.a. skæve vinkler og mærkelige afskæringer fortæller Rings billeder om meget andet end den synlige virkelighed.
