Sonja Hald blev sat i verden af forfatter og forsanger Jonas Dahl i august 2012. Jonas var på daværende tidspunkt bosat i Berlin og begik sig som engelsksproget troubadour i det meste af Europa. Sonja Hald var, i forsøget med det danske sprog, anledningen til at vende hjem. De første sange blev skrevet uden for kongeriget og Jonas vendte hjem og direkte i studio, for at møde de musikere der – ud over Jonas selv - skulle vise sig at udgøre Sonja Hald:
• Jonas Dahl: Sang
• Simon Bekker: Guitar
• Ole Holmgaard: Banjo og Keys
• Søren Madsen: Trommer
• Jakob Retz Johansen: Bas
Og Flemming Bloch som producer.
Dogmet for Sonja blev ”mindst mulig afstand mellem tanke og handling”. Således blev debutalbummet ”Vækstplanen” også til på sammenlagt 12 dage.
I august 2014 vandt Sonja Hald KarriereKanonen og de efterfølgende 12 måneder bød på +70 koncerter bl.a. sammen med Magtens Korridorer, Folkeklubben og Kim Larsen.
2016 blev dedikeret til 4 band-babyer hvoraf ét af dem var et nyt album.
