Første runde af Starsailors succes var med debut albummet “Love Is Here” fra 2003 samt opfølgeren ”Silence Is Easy”. De gik begge #2 på den
engelske hitliste og solgte 3 millioner eksemplarer. Nu har de samlet deres største hits og fan-favoritter på ”Good Souls: The Greatest Hits”,
som udkommer den 18. september på Parlophone.
Albummet åbner med bandets tre største hits i form af “Good Souls” (#12), “Silence Is Easy” (#9) og “Alcoholic” (#10). Herudover indeholder albummet yderligere syv top 40 hits, samt andre numre så som ”Tie Up My Hands” og ”Fidelity”, som blev blandt favoritterne ved bandets live shows.
“It's been over 15 years since the band first formed and the songs still mean something to people,” siger frontmand James Walsh. “They still sing the words passionately back at us at gigs. We hear stories of how songs have soundtracked key moments in their lives. That's why we felt it was the right time to release this album - hopefully if the songs mean this much to our loyal fans this collection can help spread the word wider. People who know us for 'Four To The Floor' or 'Alcoholic' can delve a little deeper.”
Ydermere indeholder albummet to helt nye sange der for nyligt er blevet indspillet sammen med producer Harry Rutherford i de berømte Fisher Lane Studios. “’Give Up The Ghost’ came from the energy of being back together after so much time,” forklarer Walsh. “It’s about not being ready to give up on something despite the challenges that you face.” Det andet nye nummer, er balladen ‘Hold On’. “The lyrics are about reassuring someone who has their life ahead of them and passing wisdom onto them,” tilføjer han. “We wanted to get an anthemic chorus which should get the crowd going.”
Udgivelsen af “Good Souls: The Greatest Hits” kom på tale efter bandets genforening med et triumferende sæt på hovedscenen ved Isle of Wight Festival 2014. De tournerede dernæst som gæster for James, før de tog turen til Nordamerika i 2015, hvor de co-headlinede sammen med Embrace.
Fuldendt med James Stelfox (bas), Ben Byrne (trommer) og Barry Westhead (keyboards), skød Starsailor frem med udgivelsen af deres debutsingle “Fever”. Efter en tidlig NME live-anmeldelse som drog begejstrede sammenligninger med Neil Young, The Verve og Coldplay, nåede deres 2001 debut album #2 på den engelske hitliste kort før de vandt en Philip Hall On award for best new band ved NME Awards, og Best New Act ved Q Awards. Det efterfølgende år blev de nomineret til Best British Newcomer ved BRIT Awards.
I 2003 udgav de deres andet album ” Silence is Easy”, som indeholdt to sange der var blandt de sidste som blev produceret af Phil Spector, og som også peakede som #2 med titelnummeret der blev deres højst placerede single i hjemlandet, da den gik ind på hitlisten som #9. Thin White Duke remixet af “Four To The Floor” toppede hitlisterne i både Frankrig og Belgien, og gik også #5 i Australien.
De udgav i 2005 “On The Outside” og “All The Plans” i 2009 der featurede Ronnie Wood før Starsailor gik i pause-mode ved årets slutning.
Starsailor annoncerede for nyligt deres første UK headline tour siden 2009, som kulminerer med et show i Londons O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire den 17. oktober, blot to dage før de kommer til VEGA!
