Byvandringen følger Emma Gads tid, med hendesgode råd som rettesnor og guide til København anno 1918. Det er de Gode Gamle Dage, da Danmark blev moderne. Hør om selskabslivet, cyklisme, skilsmisser og telefonen. Turen begynder ved det Kongelige Teater, og slår et stykke ad Strøget. Vi hører om gamle dages omgangformer, men ser også på samtiden og de regler der gælder nu. Turen ender i det fornemme Frederiksstaden, hvor Emma Gad boede det meste af sit liv - i Bredgade, Dronningens Tværgade og Nyboder.
