The Starchild is a performative piece investigating the ritual burden of modern colonization that the colonial body experience. By attaching objects that hinder a balance and movement the performance display the colonial traces through the materials, the contact with the audience, and the body itself. The tactility of the materials both in shapes and substance carry a clear reference to the colonization of Southeast and East Asia focusing on the female body and the commodification of her womb and sexuality. Concept: Yong Sun Gullach. Performer: Yong Sun Gullach. 30-45 minutes.
NB: Can due to its challenging content and mutilation of the performance body be triggering and is not recommended for children. This piece contains complete nudity, piercing of skin, blood an physical contact with the audience.
Yong Sun Gullach is a Korean-Danish artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She operates at the boundaries of activism, lectures, performance, poetry, art film, experimental sound and installation art. Her main themes investigate the disorientation transnational adoptees lives as a hidden minority while aiming to challenge the normative gaze.
