Dernæst følger Schuberts Strygekvartet nr. 13, som han skrev som 27-årig – blot fire år for sin død. En uophørlig længsel strømmer frem i alle satser, der på delikat vis citerer et væld af motiver fra hans tidligere værker, herunder 2. satsens smukke sang, der er hentet fra musikken til skuespillet Rosamunde.

The Danish String Quartet play Britten’s Three Divertimenti in the Glyptotek’s magnificent Central Hall. This colourful work abounds in playful virtuosity, mad glissandi, stomping marching rhythms and elegant nostalgia.

This is followed by Schubert’s String Quartet No. 13, which he wrote at the age of 27 – just four years prior to his death. A perpetual longing permeates every movement, all of which quote a myriad of themes from his earlier works. For example, the second movement features a beautiful melody from the composer’s incidental music for the play Rosamunde.
