Description

--- ENGLISH BELOW ---

“Off-the-cuff Brilliance”: Gustav Krogh Piekut

Once again, the Glyptotek will open the doors to a season of Summer Concerts in the beautiful Central Hall of the museum. Look forward to romantic, spell-binding, and festive tones performed amongst Roman gods and heroes by world class musicians.

“Piekut hits the sweet spot between technical accuracy and off-the-cuff brilliance.” This was BBC Music Magazine’s description of the pianist Gustav Krogh Piekut, who in this programme plays works by Debussy, Schumann and Rachmaninoff.

Debussy’s impressionist ‘Estampes’ (Prints) drifts colourfully among the pentatonic notes of Indonesian pagodas, the dreamy Moorish scales of Granada and a violent rainstorm in a French garden.

Schumann composed his ‘Fantasie in C’ during a tumultuous infatuation, referring to it as his most passionate work ever. With great complexity, the work expresses quivering passion, gentle affection and infinite longing.

Rachmaninoff’s epic Piano Sonata is driven by dramatic force, illustrating how brilliantly the composer could develop thematic material taken solely from the first ten seconds of the work.
