I samarbejde med Kammerorkestret Musica opfører Opera Nordsjællands operaensemble J.P.E. Hartmanns (1805 - 1900) og H.C. Andersens (1805 - 1875) folkeviseopera Liden Kirsten fra 1846. Der vil være tale om koncertopførelser, dvs. at der ikke er scenografi og kostumer.
Liden Kirsten er en af den danske guldalders smukkeste perler. Andersens tekst er en perfekt opdatering af den middelalderlige danske folkevise, og Hartmanns musik er dansk romantik når den er på toppen: Følsom, indsmigrende, stolt, melankolsk, munter, kort sagt romantisk i ordets bedste betydning. Desværre hører man ikke værket så tit. Selv om det stadig er den mest opførte danske opera, er det efterhånden længe siden den har været opført på scenen.
Operaen udmærker sig ikke ved en særlig dramatisk handling, men derimod med en række meget smukke musiknumre med “Sverkels romance” og “Tavlebordsduetten” som de mest kendte. Med sit middelaldertema og nationale fokus skriver operaen sig lige ind i guldalderens målsætning om gennem kunsten at opbygge en ny national identitet for Danmark.
