Denne aften tager Jan Grarup os med ind i bogværket: ”And then there was silence”. Bogen er et fotografisk monument over Jans årtier lange arbejde som fotograf i nogle af klodens absolutte krisezoner. Hans arbejde afspejler hans tro på, at fotojournalistikken bruges som et redskab og vidner om nødvendigheden af at fortælle historier om mennesker, der ikke selv er i stand fortælle deres egne historier.
Personligt foredrag
Foredraget er højst personligt og absolut aktuelt, og Jan giver tilhørerne et sjældent indblik i de mange timers arbejde, der er gået forud for bogen. Hvordan han har fotograferet, udvalgt og skabt æstetik i en bog, der viser nogle af de værste sider af verden, men samtidig også indeholder glimt af håb og nogle af de mest formidable menneskelige egenskaber som overlevelse, omsorg og kærlighed.
Om Jan Grarup
Jan Grarup er uddannet fra journalisthøjskolen i Århus. Han har igennem de sidste årtier rejst verden rundt flere gange for at dække krige, konflikter og humanitære katastrofer. Jan er blevet hædret med mange prestigefyldte priser, herunder to nomineringer til W. Eugene Smith fond for humanistisk fotografering, 8 World Press Photography Awards, en særlig pris fra Leica Oskar Barnack Award samt mange andre udmærkelse. Han er i øjeblikket aktuel i dokumentarfilmen Krigsfotografen.

Foredraget finder sted på Kulturstationen Vanløse i Café Oasen torsdag den 26. september kl. 19-21.
