Explore the sexual and social history of the old Copenhagen North Quarter - very close to Pride Square.
MEETING PLACE: The Viking Hornblower Column at Pride Square (Lurblæserne)
North Quarter or "Pisserenden". We trace its lovelife, nightlife, high life and down-and-out-life from its time as a hub of hotels and inns just inside the busiest Town Gate - The penetrate the locks and gates of marriage among the elite of the Golden Age elite of the 19. century to find both domestic bliss, forbidden passion and horror.
Descend into the slum years, when the central street came to be known as the Piss Gutter, a main prostitution area. Around one corner we see the cloistered student residence of Herman Bang, the flamboyant writer dogged with rumors of his unusual love interests.
Finally we enter into the happy-go-hippie times of the 60'ies. Smart young people moved in, and where the old streets became the stage for sexual expression. Free Love was the ideal - and some times part of a business model.
The tour provides shopping and nightlife guide. We point out Old School inns, the mainstream drunkcore bars and discos around Vestergade and the hangouts and clubs for various varieties of queer in the side streets, and a wide array of odd cafés and funky shops in this beloved corner of Copenhagen.
