Vi har glædet os vanvittigt til igen at præsentere TootArd på dansk jord, når gruppen fra Golan-højderne til juni forvandler Loppen til et svedigt Beirut-diskotek med smægtende synthstrygere og 80’er-trommemaskiner. Det nye psychede ensemble Detective Picnic & The Mystery Basket åbner aftenen. Koncerterne er præsenteret i samarbejde med Frigjort Festival.

Var man til TootArds koncert på ALICE tilbage i 2018 vil man sikkert huske den medrivende koncert, hvor gruppen fra Golan-højderne forbandt dansable rytmer med guitardrevet ørkenblues og psykedelisk arabisk rock. Fast forward til 2020 og det efterfølgende album, “Migrant Birds” (Glitterbeat). Væk er de støvede guitarer og de rockede elementer. Til gengæld er der skruet markant op for de dansable beats og de medrivende melodier, som man også kunne opleve på Sorte Firkant Festival sidste år, hvor gruppen forvandlede rummet til et svedigt Beirut-diskotek med smægtende synthstrygere og trommemaskiner. Albummet er nemlig en hyldest til arabisk pop og disco fra 80’erne og ikke mindst en kærlighedserklæring til festkulturen og den flamboyante stemning fra Libanon-hovedstadens legendariske natklubber. Som titlen antyder, er bandet dog fortsat optaget af ideen om en nomadisk utopi sat overfor en politisk virkelighed med indskrænkende grænser. Vi har glædet os vanvittigt til endnu en gang at kunne præsentere TootArd på dansk jord, denne gang i trioopsætning på Loppen, præsenteret i samarbejde med Frigjort Festival.

Detective Picnic & The Mystery Basket

Detective Picnic & The Mystery Basket er en nyt rytmisk bekendtskab på den københavnske musikscene, og er sat i verden med en enkelt mission; at amusere og underholde - ikke blot publikum, men i sandhed også sig selv. Udstyret med et lydbillede forankret i dansable grooves og fængende riffs drager detektiven ud på småpsykedeliske eventyr, lægger til i sin kurv af musik og mysterier, og deler ud af godterne live fra scenen.

We are overly excited to bring TootArd back to Copenhagen. In June, the group from the Golan Heights will turn Loppen into a Beirut-disco with soulful synth strings, 80s drum machines and quarter-tone melodic lines. The new psychey ensemble Detective Picnic & The Mystery Basket opens the night with a support set. The concerts are presented in collaboration with Frigjort Festival.

Back in 2018 TootArd performed at ALICE with the songs from “Laissez passers”. A record drawing heavily on inspirations from Arab psych and guitar infused desert blues. At the same time the record was a deep reflection on the stateless identity of the group, being from the occupied Golan Heights, where the inhabitants can’t own a passport but need to carry a specific document, “Laissez passers”, if they need to travel. Since then, the inventive duo of brothers – Hasan and Rami Nakhleh – has returned with an infectious re-imagining of their sound. Jammed full of pop hooks and quarter-tone melodic lines, “Migrant Birds” (2020) unleashes a disco whirlwind that pays homage to the Middle Eastern dancefloor scenes of the 80’s. Retro funky meets hi-sheen contemporary. But as the title indicates, their reflection on borders, migration and a utopian longing for a nomadic movement is still intact in the music. We already had a taste of TootArd’s new sound at Sorte Firkant Festival last year, and now we’re very much looking forward to bringing them back to Copenhagen when we are presenting them at Loppen in collaboration with Frigjort Festival.

A new acquaintance at the Copenhagen music scene, Detective Picnic & The Mystery Basket, has one single mission in this world: to amuse and entertain – the audience as well as themselves. Featured with danceable grooves and catchy riffs, the detective goes out on psychedelic adventures, gathering music and mysteries and sharing them from the stage.
